Meet Dr. Emily

I’m here to help you be the best adult you can be for the neurodivergent kids you are raising and teaching.

My professional and personal life have led me to share my knowledge and passion with you as you help children grow up in a world that wasn’t built for them. Here is my story!

Dr. Emily’s Story

Dr. Emily King is a Child Psychologist and former School Psychologist who has worked with neurodivergent children and teens for over 20 years.

She received a Ph.D. in School Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she worked at Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute and the Carolina Institute for Developmental Disabilities. She began her career as a School Psychologist in Houston, Texas specializing in school-based mental health in K-12 public schools. Since 2010, Dr. Emily has worked in private practice in North Carolina supporting the mental health needs of neurodivergent youth, their families, and teachers.

She has sat on both sides of the IEP and 504 tables, first as a school psychologist and then as a parent. Dr. Emily knows the feeling of thinking you are out of ideas to support your child or your students. This feeling inspired her passion for helping parents and educators collaborate so that all students succeed.

Dr. Emily hosts the Learn with Dr. Emily Substack where you can find her blogs and workshops. She is also the creator of The Neurodiverse Classroom®, a professional development curriculum for educators. Dr. Emily has been featured on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, quoted in The New York Times and The Washington Post, and has written for parents.com.

Dr. Emily’s new book, THE NEURODIVERGENT LEARNER, will be available for presale in 2026.
